Two teenagers arrested in Camberley

Submitted: 16/02/2009 17:15:00

Some good work by one of the neighbourhood officers at the weekend resulted in two young girls being arrested on suspicion of robbery.

This follows an incident at around 3.10pm on Saturday, 14 February in The Avenue, Camberley. A woman was walking along the street when two girls bumped into her and tried to grab her handbag. The victim resisted until one of the girls punched her in the face causing bruising and swelling to her eye. Having stolen her wallet the teenagers crossed over the road to join a group of youths before all running off along the Avenue towards Frimley Road.

Police attended the scene and spoke to the victim and based on her account the local NSO for St Michaels and Watchetts PC Rich Paton went to an address in Avenue Sucy, Camberley where he found a wallet in an outside bin which was later confirmed as belonging to the victim. During the search more of the victim’s property was also recovered.

PC Paton arrested a 14-year-old girl from Camberley and a 13-year-old girl from Farnborough on suspicion of robbery. Both girls were further arrested on suspicion of common assault and are both on bail while officers continue their inquiries.

Police are also appealing for any further witnesses to come forward to this incident which occurred in broad daylight on a residential street.

Surrey Heath Neighbourhood Sergeant Jon Castell said: “The local knowledge from a neighbourhood officer lead to the prompt arrest of two teenagers and items of property being recovered. Surrey Heath is a very safe place to live and this sort of violent behaviour simply will not be tolerated in our borough.”
