Spelthorne residents given the chance to share their views with Surrey Police and partner organisations

Submitted: 16/02/2009 14:41:20

SURREY Police and partner organisations will this week be carrying out a range of proactive initiatives and activities across Spelthorne.

The events will form part of an exciting new project for the Spelthorne Safer Stronger Partnership, which includes Surrey Police, Surrey County Council, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and Spelthorne Borough Council, which aim to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

The scheme, known as ‘Operation Quake’, will eventually be used in other locations across the county but is initially being introduced across North Surrey, with events taking place in parts of Elmbridge, Runnymede and Spelthorne.

The ’Week of Action’ is planned to run from Monday 16 February to Sunday 22 February.

The project aims to use planned actions and activities to tackle any ongoing issues or concerns identified to Surrey Police and partner organisations by members of the public.

A wide range of proactive criminal and community activities will be taking place throughout the ‘Week of Action’ to tackle issues such as speeding and anti-social driving, criminal damage, graffiti and anti-social behaviour.

The highlight of the ‘Week of Action’ will be a Spelthorne Safer Stronger Partnership Action Day in Stanwell on Tuesday 17 February.

The action day aims to offer the public the chance to see how the various partnership agencies work together to tackle community safety issues such as crime and anti-social behaviour.

The event will also give Surrey Police and partner agencies the chance to engage with the community and carry our enforcement action such as traffic speed checks, vehicle inspections and checks on licensed premises.

The event will involve agencies such as Surrey Police, DVLA, Fire Service, Spelthorne Borough Council Community Safety and Licensing Team, Parking Enforcement Officers, Primary Care Trust, Surrey Fire Services and St John Ambulance.

Other activities will include Spelthorne Police officers providing crime reduction, safety and general policing information to the community with partnership agencies.

Officers will also patrol specifically identified areas which have an actual or perceived anti-social behaviour or criminal damage problem and take action against anyone found to be committing offences.

Spelthorne Neighbourhood Inspector Sarah Greenhalgh said: “Surrey Police and its partners are committed to providing the best possible service and to ensure we are doing that it is vital we address the issues which have the most impact on the community.

“The week of action will also provide a great opportunity for residents to get to know their Safer Neighbourhood Team, which is made up of dedicated officers and PCSOs.

“I hope the level of engagement and enforcement activity we are undertaking combined with the already low crime rate in the area will demonstrate to the public we are committed to tackling which matter most to residents..

“This is another example of Surrey Police listening to and supporting the community and we will continue to work with communities to tackle local concerns.”
