Sharon Birchwood Murder - Operation Danube
Sharon Birchwood
Guildford Railway Station
4th December 2007
The body of 52-year-old Sharon Birchwood was found at home in Ashtead by her ex-husband when he visited her bungalow in Harriott's Lane on Friday 7 December 2007.
She was found in her bedroom, fully clothed and lying on her bed, with her hands, feet and head bound with tape and cable. There was no sign of a forced entry into the premises.
A post mortem revealed the cause of death to be asphyxia, and she is believed to have been dead for at least 24 hours.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Maria Woodall has, as one of the first lines of enquiry, been trying to determine when Sharon was last seen alive.
The image on this page was taken from CCTV at Guildford Railway Station at 14.27 hours on Tuesday 4 December 2007, and shows Sharon by the barrier on platform 2. She was wearing a dark coloured coat, white gloves and a white scarf. Perhaps more distinctive is the shooting stick she was carrying in one hand and the bag on a trolley that she was pulling with the other.
The investigation into Sharon's murder is ongoing with forensic work still continuing.
Local people have been very helpful but recent sightings of Sharon are still needed. Please contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 if you have any information, however small.
