Surrey Police Driver Training School

Mobile SupportBy their very nature, vehicle pursuits are hazardous, particularly around urban, built-up areas.

The potential for accidents or injury is relatively high, and it is for this very reason that we train our mobile officers to the highest standards.

Ultimately, the aim of the Surrey Police Driver Training School is to minimise risk to the public and our officers; reduce the number of pursuits; and to enhance pursuit management nationally.

All Surrey Police training instructors are either holders of the nationally and internationally recognised BTEC higher diploma, or are working towards the accreditation.

Skid Training

skid training What should you do if your car aquaplanes? What is traction control? What should you do if the back end of your car steps out? How does ABS (Antilock Braking System) work, and how can it benefit the driver? Should you turn into a skid or not?

There are four main reasons why a car skids: excessive speed (a basic cause); coarse steering in relation to a speed, which is not in itself excessive; harsh acceleration; and sudden or excessive braking. Each of these will result in one of the three types of skid: front-wheel, rear-wheel and four-wheel.

Skid training is given to raise a driver´s overall standard of driving. The training will give drivers the confidence to deal with any situation and conditions, and thereby equip them with right skills to use in an emergency. As a result, safety for all is greatly increased.
